How volume converter works
This converter handles both metric and imperial volume units. It works by first converting the input to liters (the base unit), then dividing by the target unit factor. For example, 1 US gallon equals 3.78541 liters, and 1 cup equals 0.236588 liters.
The metric units (liter, milliliter, cubic meter, cubic centimeter) are related by powers of 1000 or 1000000. The imperial units (gallon, quart, pint, cup, fluid ounce, tablespoon, teaspoon) use exact US customary conversion factors.
This is especially useful for cooking and baking, where recipes use different measurement systems. Results are rounded to six decimal places, with very large or small values in scientific notation.
