How area converter works
This converter handles both metric and imperial area units. It works by first converting the input to square meters (the base unit), then dividing by the target unit factor. For example, 1 acre equals 4046.86 square meters, and 1 hectare equals 10000 square meters.
The metric units (square meter, square kilometer, square centimeter, square millimeter) are related by powers of 100 or 1000000. The imperial units (square foot, square inch, square yard, square mile, acre) use exact conversion factors. Hectares are a metric unit commonly used for land area.
This is useful for real estate, agriculture, construction, and geography. Results are rounded to six decimal places, with very large or small values in scientific notation.
