How length converter works
This converter changes a length from one unit to every other supported unit in a single step. It works by first converting the input to metres — the base unit — then dividing by the target unit's factor. For example, 1 metre becomes 3.28084 feet because one foot is exactly 0.3048 metres.
All conversions use exact internationally agreed factors: 1 inch = 25.4 mm, 1 foot = 0.3048 m, 1 yard = 0.9144 m, 1 mile = 1609.344 m, and 1 nautical mile = 1852 m. The metric units (metre, kilometre, centimetre, millimetre) are related by powers of ten.
Results are rounded to six decimal places for readability, with very large or very small values shown in scientific notation so they remain legible. The conversion runs live as you type, so you can experiment with values instantly — handy for recipes, DIY, running pace, or engineering work.
