How tip splitter works
Enter the bill subtotal, a tip percentage, an optional sales-tax percentage, and how many people are splitting. Pick a quick tip (15%, 18%, 20%, or 25%) or type your own. The tool adds the tax to the subtotal, computes the tip on the pre-tax subtotal by default (or on the taxed amount if you turn that on), and divides the grand total across the people.
For groups where some ordered more than others, enter per-person weights (for example 1,2,3). Each weight sets that person's share of the subtotal, tax, and tip, so someone with weight 3 pays three times as much as someone with weight 1. Leave the weights blank for an equal split.
Turn on cash round-up to round each person's share up to the nearest whole dollar — handy when paying with cash so nobody owes coins. The tool shows the rounded total and the small extra (overage) that rounding adds on top of the exact total, which effectively becomes a little extra tip for the server.

How is the tip calculated?
By default the tip is calculated on the pre-tax subtotal, the most common convention. If your group prefers to tip on the post-tax amount, turn on "tip on the taxed amount" and the tip is calculated on the subtotal plus sales tax.
What are per-person weights for?
Weights let you split a bill unevenly so people who ordered more pay a larger share. Enter one weight per person (for example 1, 2, 3 for three people). A person with weight 2 pays twice the share of a person with weight 1. Leave the field blank to split evenly.
What does cash round-up do?
Cash round-up rounds each person's share up to the nearest whole dollar, which is convenient when paying with cash. The tool shows the rounded total and the extra overage that rounding adds on top of the exact total — that overage effectively becomes a little extra tip.
Can I split with no tax or no tip?
Yes. Set the sales-tax percentage to 0 for a tax-free bill, or the tip percentage to 0 for no tip. The splitter handles either or both being zero, and you can split across a single person to just see the totals.
