How tip calculator works
This tip calculator takes your bill amount, a tip percentage, and the number of people splitting the bill. It computes the tip by multiplying the bill by the percentage, then adds it to the bill for the total, and divides by the number of people for the per-person cost.
Tip percentages vary by country and service. In the United States, 15 to 20 percent is typical for sit-down restaurant service; 18 percent is a common default. In many European and Asian countries, service is included or a smaller tip (5 to 10 percent) is customary. Adjust the percentage to match your local norm.
The calculator rounds monetary values to two decimal places (cents). When splitting, each person share is rounded independently, so the sum of individual shares may differ by a cent or two from the total. This is a normal rounding artifact.
