How tip pool calculator works
A tip pool is a fixed amount of tips (for example, a night's shared gratuity) that needs to be divided fairly among staff. This calculator distributes the pool proportionally rather than equally, so people who worked longer or carry more weight get a larger share.
Choose a method: by hours (each worker's share is proportional to the hours they worked) or by points (each worker's share is proportional to a points value you assign, used for seniority or role weighting). Enter the pool amount and one line per worker with their name and their hours or points value.
The tool sums the total hours or points, computes a per-unit value (pool ÷ total), and multiplies each worker's value by it to get their dollar share. It also shows each worker's percentage of the pool. Shares are rounded to cents, and any rounding drift is added to the largest share so the total always balances back to the exact pool.

What is the difference between hours and points methods?
By hours splits the pool proportionally to how long each person worked, so a worker who worked 8 hours gets twice the share of one who worked 4 hours. By points splits the pool proportionally to a points value you assign each worker, which is useful when senior staff or certain roles deserve a bigger cut regardless of hours.
How are shares rounded?
Each worker's share is rounded to the nearest cent. Because rounding can leave the distributed total a penny off from the exact pool, the calculator adds any rounding drift to the worker with the largest share, so the sum of all shares always equals the pool you entered exactly.
Do I have to enter names for every worker?
No. Names are optional; if you leave a name blank the worker is labelled Staff 1, Staff 2, and so on. Each worker does need a positive hours or points value (matching the method you chose) so the proportion can be calculated.
