How bill splitter works
Enter the bill subtotal (before tax), the sales tax percentage, the tip percentage, and how many people are splitting. The splitter works out the tax on the subtotal and the tip, then adds them together for the grand total.
By default the tip is calculated on the pre-tax subtotal, which is the most common convention. Turn on "tip on taxed amount" if your group prefers to tip on the post-tax total instead.
The grand total is divided evenly across the number of people, and each person's share of the subtotal, tax, and tip is shown. Change any value and the split recalculates instantly.

Is the tip calculated before or after tax?
By default the tip is calculated on the pre-tax subtotal, which is the most common convention. If your group prefers to tip on the post-tax amount, turn on the "tip on taxed amount" option and the tip will be calculated on the subtotal plus sales tax.
How is each person's share calculated?
The grand total (subtotal + tax + tip) is divided evenly by the number of people. The tool also breaks out each person's share of the subtotal, tax, and tip so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Can I split a bill with no tax or no tip?
Yes. Set the tax percentage to 0 for a tax-free bill, or the tip percentage to 0 for no tip. The splitter handles either or both being zero, and you can split across a single person to just see the totals.
Does this round to the nearest cent?
Yes. All money amounts are rounded to two decimal places. Because of rounding, the sum of each person's per-person shares may differ from the grand total by a cent when splitting across several people.
