How salary calculator works

A salary calculator converts an hourly wage into the equivalent pay over longer periods. The base relationship is annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year. Monthly is annual ÷ 12, weekly is hourly × hours per week, and a daily figure uses an 8-hour workday for comparison.

Enter your hourly rate, your typical hours per week, and the weeks you work per year. The default of 40 hours and 52 weeks assumes a full-time year-round schedule with no unpaid time off, which is the standard for quick salary comparisons. Adjust the weeks down if you take unpaid leave, and adjust the hours for part-time or overtime.

The figures are gross (pre-tax) and do not account for overtime pay, bonuses, taxes, or benefits. Use the result to compare job offers, negotiate pay, or estimate a budget. For net take-home pay, subtract income tax and other deductions separately.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly to annual salary?
Multiply hourly rate by hours per week by weeks per year. At $25/hr, 40 hours/week, 52 weeks, the annual salary is $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000.
What are the defaults based on?
The calculator defaults to 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year — a standard full-time, year-round schedule. Change the weeks to 50 if you take two unpaid weeks off, or the hours for part-time work.
Is the daily figure based on an 8-hour day?
Yes, the daily value uses an 8-hour workday for easy comparison (hourly rate × 8). It is a simple equivalent, not a separate input.
Does this account for taxes or overtime?
No. The result is gross pay before taxes. Overtime (typically 1.5× after 40 hours), bonuses, and benefits are not included. Use a net-pay or tax calculator for take-home estimates.
