How workday calculator works
A workday calculator counts the business days between two dates — the days a office or project is actually open — by walking the calendar day by day and skipping weekends and any holidays you list. Unlike a simple date difference, it knows that Saturday and Sunday are not working days and that a public holiday on a weekday still counts as closed.
Enter a start and end date and choose the weekend convention that matches your region: Saturday–Sunday (most of the world), Friday–Saturday (much of the Middle East) or Sunday only. Add holidays as specific dates (2026-12-25) or as recurring annual dates (12-25) that repeat every year. You can choose whether to include the end date itself in the count.
The result shows the total calendar days in the range, the number of business days, and a breakdown of how many weekends and holidays were excluded. Everything runs in your browser; no dates are uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How are business days counted?
The calculator walks each calendar day from the start date to the end date. It skips weekends (per the convention you choose) and any day in your holiday list, then counts the remaining days. The total excludes both weekend days and holidays that fall on a weekday.
Can I add recurring holidays?
Yes. Enter a holiday as MM-DD (for example 12-25 for Christmas) and it is excluded every year. Enter a holiday as YYYY-MM-DD to exclude it only in that specific year. You can mix both formats in the same list.
Which weekend convention should I choose?
Most of the world uses Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. Choose Friday–Saturday for much of the Middle East, or Sunday only for regions where only Sunday is the non-working day. The calculator excludes exactly those days from the business-day count.
Is the end date included in the count?
By default yes — a range from Monday to Friday counts as 5 business days. Turn off “include end date” if you want an exclusive count (4 business days for the same range), which is useful for calculating elapsed working time.
